Sir Jim Ratcliffe Backs Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has given indications of his intention to give Ruben Amorim time to turn things around at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach is under pressure after a 10-month period in charge, during which he has only achieved 10 victories in the Premier League. This performance has generated criticism and calls from some fans for the 40-year-old coach to be fired. Despite the difficult start to the season, Ratcliffe has suggested that he is willing to wait until the end of Amorim’s contract in 2027, citing Arsenal’s patience with Mikel Arteta as an example to follow.

“He hasn’t had the best of seasons,” Ratcliffe stated on The Times’ “The Business” podcast.

“Ruben needs to prove that he is a great coach for three years. That’s where I would be, three years, because football isn’t made overnight. Look at Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, he had a terrible time the first few years.”

His 40% win percentage is the lowest of any permanent United manager since Frank O’Farrell in the 1970s.

Ratcliffe, however, insists that he will not make “hasty” decisions and seems willing to give Amorim more time. “The press, sometimes I don’t understand it,” said Ratcliffe.

“They want overnight success. They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and everything is going to be rosy tomorrow.”

“You can’t run a club like Manchester United with impulsive reactions to some journalists who get out of control every week.”
