Milwaukee – The Houston Astros reported on Wednesday about the situation of their outstanding hitter, Yordan Álvarez.
The team announced that Álvarez is suffering from a muscle strain in the upper part of his right hand. Despite the injury, the coaching staff expressed optimism, indicating that a prolonged absence is not expected.
Álvarez, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, retroactive to Saturday, returned to Houston for an MRI. The results confirmed the diagnosis, generating relief within the team.
“We see it as good news,”
Joe Espada, Astros manager
Espada added that they are confident that Álvarez can rejoin the team as soon as the minimum period on the injured list ends.
The 27-year-old Cuban player has had a less outstanding start to the season, with a .210 average, three home runs, and 18 RBIs in 29 games. Espada suggested that the hand discomfort might have affected his offensive performance.
In the previous season, Álvarez had a remarkable performance, batting .308, with 35 home runs, and was among the finalists for the American League Most Valuable Player.
With an OPS of at least .959 in the last three seasons and three All-Star Game appearances, Álvarez is a crucial element in Houston’s lineup. His return could be fundamental to improving the team’s offense in this first half of the season.
