The Chilean star, Stephanie Vaquer, has conquered the summit of professional wrestling. In a culminating moment, Vaquer triumphed over her rival Iyo Sky, securing the WWE Women’s World Championship at Wrestlepalooza.

A Dream Come True in WWE

The event marked a historic milestone: Vaquer became the first South American woman to win a WWE championship, solidifying a meteoric rise of just over a year in the company. “It was the best match of my career so far, and the result of the match was the dream of my life,” Vaquer declared. Her television debut on NXT, WWE’s developmental brand, in October 2024, followed by her crowning as NXT double champion in March and her debut on the WWE main roster in June, paved the way to history at Wrestlepalooza. The match against Sky, rated B+ by experts, was a spectacle for the fans. “I am proud because it was not just a match for the most important championship, but against one of the best in the world, Iyo Sky, whom I have admired for many years,” said Vaquer. “The fact of being able to compete for this title with her demonstrated in the ring why we are both among the best in the world at this moment.” Now, Vaquer is preparing for a new challenge: she will face Tiffany Stratton, the WWE Women’s Champion, in a champion vs. champion match at Crown Jewel on Saturday in Perth, Australia.Description of WWE’s Instagram post: A moment that Stephanie Vaquer and her father, Héctor Vaquer Alvera, will never forget. Family Support and the Path to Success

Héctor Vaquer Alvera, Stephanie’s father, witnessed his daughter fight on American soil for the first time. At Wrestlepalooza, the dream of both came true. After defeating Sky, Stephanie ran to her father, who was in the front row, to share an emotional hug.

“It was very special because my father is my number 1 fan. He is the one who has supported me from the beginning and has always been with me, who saw me suffer, who listened to me when I was 15 years old and I told him, ‘Dad, I want to be a professional wrestler'”.

Vaquer revealed that she bought the plane ticket for her father just a week before Wrestlepalooza, which gave her extra motivation to perform at her best. “I told myself that I was not only going to win and celebrate, but I was going to take the belt to my father and say, ‘I did it, I did it’,” she shared.

The victory at Wrestlepalooza marked another milestone in the career of Vaquer, who has already made history in the world of wrestling, being “The First” South American to stand out in Japan (NJPW), Mexico (CMLL) and NXT, where she conquered multiple titles.

The Origin of “The First”

The nickname “La Primera” came from a Mexican journalist who presented her as the first South American in Japan, Mexico, etc. “I like it because, far from being a character, it is a reality. It is something that has marked history,” explained Vaquer. “I have had the good fortune, perhaps the great opportunity, to be the first South American in many facets of wrestling, and that has identified me as a pioneer.”

Overcoming Obstacles

Vaquer’s path to the top was not easy. At 19, he left Chile to seek opportunities in Mexico. There he faced difficulties, including a broken nose that kept him out of the ring for more than a year.

“The WWE landscape and the women’s division have just changed with Stephanie Vaquer becoming women’s champion”.

In Mexico, she found help in a restaurant where she worked as a waitress, sleeping in the kitchen and struggling to make her way. Over time, she managed to stand out in the CMLL and had important opportunities in NJPW and other international promotions before arriving at WWE. At 32 years old, Vaquer is a consolidated star in WWE, with the support of the company he always dreamed of joining. Stephanie McMahon, former wrestler and former president and co-CEO of WWE, was the one who raised Vaquer’s hand in a sign of victory at WWE Evolution, when he won the battle royal that guaranteed him the opportunity for the title at Wrestlepalooza. “My relationship with Stephanie [McMahon], with all of them, has been incredible. I’ve had their support, which has driven me to work even harder. They are always attentive, not only with me, but with everyone: how we feel, how we are, our work environment, our way of working,” said Vaquer. Paul Michael Levesque, also known as Triple H, highlighted the importance of his victory at Wrestlepalooza, emphasizing his recovery from an illness that had kept him away from television. Levesque emphasized that Vaquer’s triumph over Iyo Sky, whom he considers one of the best female wrestlers of all time, was incredible. “The WWE landscape and the women’s division have just changed with Stephanie Vaquer becoming women’s champion,” concluded Levesque. Vaquer joins a group of female wrestlers who are raising the level of women’s wrestling, such as Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley. Now, Vaquer is ready to follow her path, seeking a future confrontation with Rhea Ripley and, why not?, WrestleMania.
