JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Tommy Gainey showcased his prowess at the Constellation Furyk & Friends, securing his first title on the PGA Tour Champions. Gainey, 50, capped off a stellar performance with a final round of 6-under par, a 66, which earned him the victory. The key moment of the tournament came on the 13th hole, a par 5, where Gainey sank an impressive eagle putt from off the green, allowing him to take the lead. This triumph is even more remarkable considering that Gainey had to qualify to enter the tournament at Timuquana Country Club. Gainey started the final round four strokes behind the leader, Matt Gogel. However, with a solid performance in the last nine holes, he managed to pull away and keep Australian Cameron Percy at bay. Percy, who was one stroke away, failed to sink a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole. Gainey, for his part, sealed his victory with a birdie from six feet on the final hole, finishing the tournament with a total of 14 under par, with a total of 202 strokes. This year, Gainey participated in four Monday qualifiers. Now, with his victory, he earns an exemption and moves up to number 37 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

I worked hard for a long time, and I can finally say that the hard work has paid off. I’ve taken a weight off my shoulders.

Matt Gogel, for his part, finished the day with 75 strokes, tying for third place with Vijay Singh and Thomas Bjorn. This tournament marked the final year at Timuquana’s course, a highly regarded Donald Ross design. The event will move to Ocean Hammock, 60 miles south, for next year.
