Jack Draper adds Jamie Delgado as head coach

British tennis player Jack Draper has made a significant change to his coaching team. Draper, number one in Great Britain, will begin working with Jamie Delgado, who was previously Andy Murray’s coach. This decision marks a new stage for Draper, who previously collaborated closely with James Trotman. Although Trotman will remain involved, Delgado will assume the role of head coach and will accompany Draper in most tournaments. Delgado, former British Davis Cup player and holder of the record for consecutive Wimbledon appearances with 23, began working with Murray in 2016, initially alongside Ivan Lendl. During that period, Murray experienced one of the most successful stages of his career. Delgado remained on Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season. Subsequently, he coached Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov, who praised Delgado’s impact. Given Trotman’s desire to spend more time at home, Draper secured Delgado’s services after his long collaboration with Dimitrov concluded last month.

The collaboration between Draper and Delgado will begin in the preseason. Currently, Draper is in the process of recovering from an injury to his left arm, which has limited him to playing only one match since Wimbledon. After his elimination in the second round of the All England Club, Draper was diagnosed with a bone contusion. His attempt to return at the US Open was thwarted by withdrawing before the second round, leading him to end his season prematurely. This situation truncated the aspirations of the 23-year-old tennis player to participate for the first time in the ATP Finals, and Draper dropped to eighth place in the ranking during his absence. Draper is expected to return to the courts in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final to be held in London in December.
