Manchester United’s Dressing Room Backs Ruben Amorim
The Manchester United board trusts the squad’s support for coach Ruben Amorim, following positive conversations between the players and the club’s directors.
United eased the pressure on Amorim with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
After the match, Mason Mount stated that the dressing room is “100% with the coach” despite the difficult start to the season.
Defender Matthijs de Ligt also publicly backed Amorim after the 3-1 defeat against Brentford.
Internal sources reveal that CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox have also spoken with team members, including captain Bruno Fernandes and the leadership group, and are convinced of continued support for the Portuguese coach.Ruben Amorim led Man United to a 2-0 home victory over Sunderland on Saturday.
The conversations were not formal and were not intended to probe the players about Amorim’s future.
However, comments about the 40-year-old coach and the atmosphere in the locker room are said to have been positive.
Any decision to dismiss Amorim, who has a contract until 2027, would involve Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer, although the opinion of Berrada and Wilcox would be sought.
Berrada and Wilcox, appointed by Ratcliffe after becoming minority shareholders in February 2024, have taken an active role in understanding the environment at the club.
Both have offices at Carrington, which has been renovated with a £50 million investment in the last year, allowing them to have more contact with Amorim and the players.

Conversations between leaders, players, and staff have intensified since the return to the main Carrington building in August, and interactions have become common in the newly designed group areas.
Former CEO Richard Arnold, who left his position in November 2023, spent most of his working week at Old Trafford instead of the training ground.
His predecessor, Ed Woodward, had a more visible presence at Carrington despite having his offices at the stadium.
One of the reasons Woodward decided to dismiss former coach José Mourinho in December 2018 was his belief that he no longer had the support of the locker room.
