Jayden Daniels Returns as Commanders’ Starter

The Washington Commanders quarterback, Jayden Daniels, returns as the starter this Sunday, after missing the previous two games due to a sprain in his left knee. Daniels fully participated in training throughout the week and confirmed on Wednesday his availability to play against the Los Angeles Chargers, about 70 kilometers from his hometown, San Bernardino. The decision was made official by coach Dan Quinn after the Commanders’ practice at the Los Angeles Coliseum. This announcement represents a necessary boost for the team, which is coming off a 34-27 loss to the Atlanta Falcons and is facing multiple injuries to key players.

He had a great week.

Washington will play its second consecutive game without two of its top three receivers: Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin/calf). Brown also missed a game in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders due to injury. Daniels has been training with a black knee brace on his left knee and will wear it on Sunday, according to Quinn.

I’m not her biggest fan, but if that’s what I have to use, I’ll do my best.

The knee brace doesn’t restrict his movements, a crucial aspect for Sunday. The Chargers have allowed the third-most rushing yards to quarterbacks this season; Daniels led all quarterbacks with 570 rushing yards as a rookie in 2024. The Commanders’ offense performed well with backup Marcus Mariota, totaling 61 points from the line of scrimmage. In his four games in relief of Daniels over the past two seasons, Mariota has thrown for a total of 729 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception.

He played as well as you can play. They are different styles and Jayden is a unique talent, the way he plays, moves, throws. He is generational, so every time you have him back, that’s going to lift your team.

Daniels commented that it was difficult to miss two games. He stated that he could have played two weeks ago, but “I don’t make those decisions.” He was not medically cleared to play until Wednesday. Daniels assured that he will not change his style of play after receiving a blow to the knee during a run in the last quarter against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. “You have to be smart, live to see another play,” he said. “But just know that if the game is on, I will do whatever it takes to win.”
