Tension at Joe Gibbs Racing: Hamlin and Gibbs Resolve Differences
After the incident between Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs in the recent race, the Joe Gibbs Racing team has reached an internal agreement. Hamlin, who is competing in the playoffs, and Gibbs, grandson of the team owner, had a run-in on the track that generated controversy. Hamlin, visibly annoyed, expressed his frustration over the radio during the race, questioning whether the team was afraid to give orders to Gibbs, 22 years old. This Saturday, before the race at Kansas Speedway, Hamlin revealed that a meeting took place where everyone could express their points of view.Christopher Bell, JGR teammate, indicated that the situation was already clear and it was not necessary to explicitly state how Toyota drivers should compete at this crucial stage of the season. Bell emphasized the importance of avoiding incidents between teammates. Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe, also from JGR, obtained the pole position for Sunday’s race in Kansas, marking his seventh pole of the year. Briscoe will share the front row with Hamlin. Kyle Larson, driver for Hendrick Motorsports, commented on the situation, pointing out that, although the competition for the victory is paramount, expectations about the behavior between teammates should be clear, especially in situations of lesser relevance in the race. Larson mentioned the teamwork that often goes unseen, such as the help he received from his teammate Alex Bowman in a previous race. Larson anticipates that internal conversations at JGR will have clarified expectations for the future.I definitely got too worked up and went too far. There are things I should have done differently.
