The concerning incident occurred in the third quarter of the game against Las Vegas, which ended in an overtime loss for Indiana, with a score of 107-98. This victory secured the Aces their third appearance in the WNBA Finals in four years and eliminated the Fever after a standout performance in the playoffs. Aliyah Boston, star center for the Fever, committed her fifth foul while setting a screen, just as Mitchell was heading towards the basket. Mitchell fell to the ground, and both players and coaches came over to assist her, using towels to protect her privacy. Although a stretcher was prepared, it was not needed. Mitchell managed to stand up and was taken to a hospital for treatment.Mitchell added that she panicked at the thought of the worst when she couldn’t move her legs. She thanked God for protecting her at that moment and expressed her gratitude to the coaches and doctors who attended to her in the arena and in the hospital. The 29-year-old player, former Ohio State star and Cincinnati native, was key in Indiana’s outstanding season. After her third All-Star Game selection, she led the team in scoring during the regular season, averaging 20.2 points per game. In the postseason, she maintained her performance, averaging 22.3 points in 32.6 minutes in eight playoff games. The Fever played without four key players, including Caitlin Clark, due to injuries that ended their season. Despite these adversities, Indiana, led by Mitchell, managed to win their first playoff series in a decade, overcoming a 1-0 deficit in the first round against Atlanta. The Fever took Las Vegas, the second seed, to a decisive fifth game and overtime, despite losing Boston to fouls and Mitchell to cramps.“I suffered from something called Rhabdomyolysis last night. My muscles stopped producing and reached their maximum capacity,” Mitchell wrote. “I went into a feeling of numbness/paralysis without movement in my lower extremities for about 5 to 7 seconds.”
