McLaren Closes in on the 2025 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship

The 2025 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be one of the most successful in McLaren’s history. The team is on the verge of securing the Constructors’ Championship, possibly, well before the end of the season in Abu Dhabi, as happened last year. After obtaining their first team title in 26 years in 2024, McLaren is on track to retain the crown in record time, with several races still to go. Although McLaren may have missed an opportunity in Azerbaijan, they have a great chance to secure the championship at the Singapore Grand Prix, on October 5th, the eighteenth race of the season. After the race in Marina Bay, 303 points will be up for grabs in six rounds. McLaren has a 333-point lead over Mercedes, who surpassed Ferrari in the fight for second place in Baku. Since McLaren already has enough victories to nullify a tiebreaker, a 303-point lead over second place would secure the title for the team. The most Mercedes could get in the next Grand Prix with a one-two finish is 43 points, so McLaren needs only 13 points to come out victorious. This means that a single podium finish by Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris would be enough.

Ferrari is also mathematically in the running, so McLaren will be crowned champion in Singapore if:

  • Is not surpassed by Mercedes by 31 points or more.
  • Is NOT surpassed by Ferrari by 35 points or more.
McLaren está a punto de asegurar el Campeonato de Constructores más temprano en la historia de la F1.
With a dominant car and exceptional performances from Piastri and Norris, McLaren has already achieved 12 race wins and seven finishes with both drivers in the top positions in the first 17 races of 2025. The relentless pace and consistency have created a considerable lead in the standings, with 623 points compared to Mercedes’ 290. The record for the earliest victory in the F1 Constructors’ Championship was set in 2023, when Red Bull won it with six races remaining. McLaren secured their ninth constructors’ title, and the first since 1998, in the last race of the 2024 season, surpassing Ferrari by 14 points thanks to a victory by Norris. Piastri and Norris are immersed in a much more competitive battle in the Drivers’ Championship, with the Australian leading his teammate by 25 points.
