DUBLIN – Skylar Thompson, the backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, suffered minor injuries after an assault that occurred early Saturday morning in Dublin, a city that hosted an official regular season NFL game this Sunday.

A Steelers spokesperson, via NFL Network, stated: “We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson during the early hours in Dublin. We will not be making any further comment at this time, as we are working with the NFL security team to gather more information about the incident.”

Thompson, 28, is in his fourth season in the league and his first with the Pittsburgh franchise. Despite suffering hamstring discomfort since September 10, he traveled with the team to Ireland, although he is on the injured list.

Sources from the league indicate that the player was assaulted during a night out, but was able to return to the hotel where the team is staying on his own. He was seen on the field at Croke Park on Sunday, before the match against the Minnesota Vikings, although he did not participate in the game.

The game in Dublin is part of week four of the NFL schedule and is part of its international expansion plan. In 2025, seven games are planned outside the United States: one in Brazil, three in London, one in Berlin, and the closing in Madrid, on November 16, with the match between the Dolphins and Commanders at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

This is not the first off-field incident involving players before an international match. In 2018, four members of the Jacksonville Jaguars were detained in London due to a problem at a bar, although the charges were dropped after the corresponding debt was paid.
