Eugenio Suárez ties his home run record and leads the Mariners to victory

In an exciting encounter, Eugenio Suárez tied his personal best with his 49th home run, propelling the Seattle Mariners to a resounding victory over the Colorado Rockies with a score of 6-2. This triumph represents the Mariners’ seventeenth win in their last 18 games, solidifying their dominance in the American League West.

After securing their first divisional title since 2001, the Mariners secured a direct pass to the first round of the American League Division Series, as well as the home-field advantage, thanks to Cleveland’s loss to Detroit.

Suárez connected on a slider from Bradley Blalock, sending the ball over the fence for a two-run homer in the second inning, establishing a lead that Seattle would never relinquish. In addition, Suárez, who also hit 49 home runs for Cincinnati in 2019, added a run-scoring single in the fifth inning, raising his RBI total to a career-high 117.

The victory also extended Seattle’s home winning streak to 11 consecutive games, tying the team record set between May 20 and June 8, 2001.

On the other hand, Colorado suffered its seventeenth loss in September, accumulating a total of 116 losses in the season, the most in the National League since the New York Mets lost 120 games in 1962.

Emerson Hancock, who replaced Bryan Woo due to pectoral discomfort, shone on the mound by allowing only two hits in four scoreless innings, striking out seven batters. Caleb Ferguson also contributed to maintaining the lead, overcoming a walk in the seventh inning.

Dominic Canzone drove in a run with a force out in the fourth inning, and Randy Arozarena hit a two-run single with two outs.

Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh stayed at 60 home runs. Hundreds of fans at T-Mobile Park began to leave the stadium when Raleigh was put out at second base in the eighth inning. He needs two home runs to tie the American League record set by Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.
