Edmundo Sosa leads the Phillies’ offense with three home runs

In a historic night for the Phillies, Edmundo Sosa shone with three home runs, while Kyle Schwarber contributed two more, solidifying their lead in the National League and securing a direct pass to the postseason. The Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins with a score of 11-1 on Wednesday night, setting a new team record with eight home runs in total. With this triumph, the Phillies (93-65), champions of the East Division, secure one of the top two spots in the National League and will begin the postseason at home on October 4 in a best-of-five divisional series. Schwarber, with his 55th and 56th home runs of the season, also hit a double and a single, demonstrating his great offensive moment. He is only four home runs behind Cal Raleigh, the league leader. The Phillies’ offense has been relentless, surpassing their own record by hitting seven home runs against Atlanta on August 28, where Schwarber also had an outstanding performance with four home runs. The Phillies are shaping up as one of the favorites for the championship this postseason, seeking to overcome the challenges of previous years.

“Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s been a successful season, not just for me, but for many on the team,” Schwarber said. “We are champions of the National League East for the second year in a row, we’re back in the playoffs, we have a direct pass. There’s a lot to be proud of. But we’re not done yet.”

Pitcher Jesús Luzardo had an outstanding performance, striking out 10 batters in seven innings against his former team, allowing only three hits and one run. Marlins pitcher Ryan Weathers lasted 4⅔ innings, allowing five earned runs and six hits, including three home runs.
