Rafael Nadal Will Receive an Honorary Doctorate from UPM

The renowned Spanish tennis player, Rafael Nadal, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) next March. The news was announced by the rector Óscar García Suárez during the inauguration of the 2025-2026 academic year.

This recognition of Nadal comes at the proposal of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport of the UPM, which approved his investiture in March 2022. The tennis player himself requested to postpone the ceremony until the end of his sporting career.

UPM seeks, through this appointment, to honor the outstanding career and values that Nadal has demonstrated throughout his career. He is considered a tennis icon, admired for his effort, discipline, and ability to overcome challenges. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for March 2026 and is expected to be attended by personalities from the academic, sports, and institutional worlds.
