Conor McGregor Withdraws from Irish Presidential Race

The renowned mixed martial arts fighter, Conor McGregor, has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the presidential elections in Ireland. Furthermore, he has described the electoral process as “undemocratic”. At 37 years old, the chances of McGregor appearing on the ballot in October were minimal. To achieve this, he needed the support of 20 members of parliament or four local authorities. Despite trying to mobilize his followers on social media and seeking the backing of figures like Elon Musk, McGregor announced on Sunday that he would cease his efforts.

I want to assure the people of Ireland that this will not be my last foray into politics. You will see me again in the future, fighting for their rights and representing the best interests of our nation.

While McGregor enjoys popularity on social media, his image as a political figure in Ireland is questioned. In November, he was found guilty in a sexual assault case related to an incident in 2018. A recent poll revealed that only 7% of respondents would vote for him. McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in the UFC since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He has expressed interest in participating in the UFC event planned at the White House in the summer of 2026.
