Dijonai Carrington Misses Rest of Postseason Due to Injury
Minnesota Lynx player DiJonai Carrington will not be able to participate in the remainder of the postseason due to an injury. The team announced on Saturday that tests revealed a “significant midfoot sprain”.
An MRI confirmed the severity of the sprain, after Carrington was initially ruled out for Game 1 of the WNBA semi-final series against the Phoenix Mercury, scheduled for Sunday.
Carrington’s injury apparently occurred at the end of Game 2 of the first-round series against the Golden State Valkyries. She was seen wearing a boot and walking with crutches on Friday at the press conference of her teammate Alanna Smith, who received the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The absence of Carrington represents a significant loss for the Minnesota Lynx, losing a key player on both sides of the court. In the two games of the first-round series against the Valkyries, Carrington provided important offensive energy, scoring six points in Game 1 and 11 in Game 2. In addition, she was selected for the first defensive team in 2024, taking on the task of defending Golden State’s best player.
In the 11 regular season games she played with the Lynx, Carrington averaged 8.6 points, with a 48.5% field goal percentage and a career-high 45.5% from the three-point line. It should be noted that she missed the last four regular season games due to a shoulder injury.
