Verstappen Claims Pole Position in a Chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix Qualifying

BAKU, Azerbaijan – Max Verstappen frustrated Carlos Sainz and Williams, denying them a surprising pole position in one of the most exciting Formula 1 qualifying sessions, marked by six red flags. The championship leader, Oscar Piastri, was one of the drivers who suffered an accident and will start in ninth position in Sunday’s race, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who also hit the wall. Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, wasted a golden opportunity to change the course of the championship, hitting the barrier at Turn 15 during his lap in Q3, when he seemed to have pole position within reach. Norris will start from seventh position. Liam Lawson, from Racing Bulls, will start from third position, ahead of Mercedes teammates Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
