A’ja Wilson, WNBA MVP Finalist: Fourth Title in Sight?

Henderson, Nev. – A’ja Wilson, star of the Las Vegas Aces, has been named as one of the five finalists for the WNBA MVP award. This nomination puts her in a prime position to become the first player to win the award four times. The vote, conducted by a panel of media outlets, will be announced on Sunday. Wilson, who has already been awarded in 2020 and 2022, will seek to add another award to her impressive career. Last season, Wilson joined Cynthia Cooper of the 1997 Houston Comets as the only players to be unanimously selected MVP. In addition, she tied with Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson as the only three-time winners.

The other finalists for the award are:

  • Napheesa Collier, forward for the Minnesota Lynx.
  • Allisha Gray, guard for the Atlanta Dream.
  • Kelsey Mitchell, guard for the Indiana Fever.
  • Alyssa Thomas, forward for the Phoenix Mercury.
The other four finalists haven’t won the MVP award yet. Wilson led the WNBA with averages of 23.4 points and 2.3 blocks per game for the Aces, who finished second in the league. Collier, for her part, was the most outstanding player on the league’s best team, averaging 22.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
