Shaun Harvey, non-executive director of Wrexham, has called the speculation about the possible dismissal of Phil Parkinson, the team’s coach, an “absolute disgrace.” Harvey assured that the club will not “panic” despite a complicated start to the season.
Parkinson has led Wrexham to achieve three consecutive promotions. However, after a difficult start in the Championship, where the Welsh team occupies the 21st position with only one victory in five matches, a local media reported that the owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had held conversations about the future of the coach.
Harvey has expressed the full support of the board for Parkinson.
It’s an absolute disgrace.
Shaun Harvey
The executive commented on the “Fearless in Devotion” podcast about reports suggesting conversations on the subject. “We have to face the facts. There will be speculation… What’s happening in Wrexham?”
“Are there disappointments with the results? Yes. We are disappointed not to have four points at this moment.”
“But to start quoting discussions and meetings that have taken place is what is a shame. It’s nonsense.”Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham han ganado solo uno de cinco partidos en el Championship esta temporada.Harvey, who has appeared in the Disney+/FX series “Welcome to Wrexham,” added that Wrexham is “a long way” from having a problem with Parkinson, who has been at the helm of the team for almost all of Reynolds and McElhenney’s ownership.
“Phil has the full support of the club,” Harvey added. “I know before anyone starts writing headlines like ‘Harvey gives Parkinson vote of confidence’, that’s not a vote of confidence.”
“What I’m saying is that he has all our support. You can only give someone a vote of confidence when you’ve really discussed the future. It hasn’t even been on the agenda yet.”
“So, if that day comes, the decision will have to be made. But Phil is our man.”
“We’ve backed it from the start. We’ve backed it for four years. We’ve had all the success under that regime. Why should we panic now?”
“Phil is our man, we are backing him. He needs to be given time to take us back to the top of the table, to give us the best chance of success. The day we have a problem, we will deal with it then. But, God, we are a long way from that right now.”
Harvey indicated that Reynolds and McElhenney would be involved if a decision was ever made.
“They sanctioned the dismissal of Dean Keates [in 2021], so they have a 100% track record of being involved in the big decisions,” he continued. “They will have an opinion and will participate in that process.”
