Joe Burrow: No Definitive Timeline for Return After Surgery

Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor has not provided an estimated return date for quarterback Joe Burrow, after he underwent successful toe surgery on Friday morning. Burrow underwent surgery to repair an injury to his left toe, Taylor reported after Friday’s practice. The coach confirmed that the surgery was a success.

There is no reason to set a deadline. We don’t have a deadline. Now it’s in recovery and we’ll see how it progresses.

Sources close to the team suggest that Burrow could be out of action for three months. The procedure was carried out at the Andrews Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Starting with Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, Jake Browning will assume the role of starting quarterback while Burrow recovers. Browning already had the opportunity to lead the team in seven games during the 2023 season, when Burrow suffered a wrist injury that ended his season.

Injury Update: Cam Taylor-Britt Questionable

Regarding other injury news, the Bengals could face the Vikings without one of their top cornerbacks, facing All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson. Cam Taylor-Britt is questionable for the game due to a hamstring injury. Taylor-Britt was injured during Wednesday’s practice and did not participate on Thursday. On Friday morning, although he was in uniform to stretch, he did not participate in his position drills during the time open to the media. Taylor indicated that he was not ready to rule out Taylor-Britt with 48 hours to go before the start of the game. Cornerback DJ Turner II, who also suffered a hamstring injury this week, is expected to be available. He is projected to be the starter on the outside if Taylor-Britt is unable to play. The Bengals are seeking their first 3-0 season start since 2015.
