Alexander Ogando: Sixth Place in the 200 Meters Final at Tokyo 2025
Dominican sprinter Alexander Ogando concluded his participation in the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships with an outstanding performance, securing sixth place in the 200-meter final. Ogando recorded a time of 20.01 seconds, demonstrating his consistency on the international stage.
The competition, one of the most anticipated of the event, saw Noah Lyles of the United States take the victory, clocking 19.52 seconds. Kenneth Bednarek, also American, won the silver medal with a time of 19.58 seconds, while the bronze went to Bryan Levell of Jamaica, with 19.64 seconds. The Olympic champion, Letsile Tebogo, was close to the podium. Ogando, a native of San Juan de la Maguana, adds this achievement to his impressive sporting record. Previously, he won the silver medal in the mixed 4×400 meters relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and conquered gold at the 2022 Eugene World Championships in the same discipline, along with Fiordaliza Cofil, Marileidy Paulino and Lidio Feliz. In individual tests, Ogando had already proven his worth. He was a finalist in the 200 meters in Eugene 2022 and obtained third place in the Diamond League final in Zurich that same year, with a time of 20.16 seconds. In addition, in Brussels 2022, he was runner-up. Ogando arrived in Tokyo 2025 ranked fourth in the world ranking for the 200 meters, after an outstanding season in which he secured third place in the Diamond League final. His personal bests include 19.86 seconds in the 200 meters (national record), 44.68 in the 400 meters, and 10.09 in the 100 meters.
