Alexia Putellas rejects millionaire offer from PSG and stays in Barcelona

The star of women’s soccer, Alexia Putellas, has made a decision that has shaken the sports world. The Barcelona player has rejected a lucrative offer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), opting to remain at the Catalan club. PSG, seeking to strengthen its team and challenge Olympique Lyonnais’ dominance in the French First Division, presented a proposal that included a multi-year contract and a significant salary increase. However, Putellas has chosen to continue defending Barcelona’s colors.

Barça made it clear that they were not open to offers for Putellas.

Alexia Putellas en acción
Putellas, winner of two Ballon d’Ors, has demonstrated her commitment to Barcelona, the club she returned to in 2012 and with which she has played more than 450 matches. Her current contract with Barça ends next summer, although there is the option to extend it until 2027. The possible absence of Putellas would have been a hard blow for Barcelona, especially considering the reduction in the team’s squad this summer, with only 18 players registered for the first team. The decision to let so many players go is part of broader cost-cutting measures across the club’s various sports teams, as well as the desire to use the available budget to renew the contracts of players that are about to expire. In addition to Putellas, the contracts of Marta Torrejón, Mapi León, Salma Paralluelo, Clàudia Pina, Caroline Graham Hansen, Cata Coll and Ona Batlle expire in 2026.
