Roger Federer Shines in San Francisco with Tricks and Smiles

Federer, who supports and promotes the Laver Cup, was energetic and smiling while sharing strategies with Yannick Noah, captain of the European Team for the event. The Swiss tennis player enjoyed playing with the children and expressed his wish to have visited the city more during his career. He signed autographs and took selfies with the fans, even exchanging a few shots with the mayor of San Francisco, Daniel Lurie.

“It’s a joy to come to a public park like this, spend time with the children, inspire them and talk about tennis. I am very happy to be here and to see the good work we have done with the Laver Cup. I had a great time last time in March, they were very kind to me. So I’m glad to be here again,” said Federer.

Federer, who retired three years ago at the age of 41, was impressed by the black court in the Golden State Warriors stadium and expressed his desire to be able to play there.

“It’s something really special,” Federer commented. “I feel a little sad, it’s not the word, but I’m sorry I can’t play, because this is a place I would have loved to play. I spoke with Tim Henman at the hotel and said, ‘This would be an incredible place to play tennis.’ So I’ll miss it, but I’ll enjoy it as a fan.”

While Casper Ruud and other tennis players have already trained on the court, a formal practice day is scheduled for Thursday so that fans can see the stars in action. Patrick Rafter, assistant to the World Team captain, Andre Agassi, looks forward to the support of the public in a venue where Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is usually the main attraction.

“They are very important names worldwide, and Stephen Curry is one of the main ones. Let’s hope we can meet them all, hang out or something like that. We are in this incredible place. I didn’t realize so many people could fit: 18,000 people, it’s huge. Being here and playing tennis is going to be great. It’s impressive to see them warm up,” Rafter declared.
