Terence Crawford makes history by defeating Canelo Álvarez
In a historic night for boxing, Terence Crawford surpassed Canelo Álvarez at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, achieving a unanimous decision victory that crowns him as the undisputed super middleweight champion.
Crawford, a four-division world champion, etches his name in boxing history by becoming the first male pugilist in the four-belt era (since 2007) to be undisputed champion in three weight classes: super lightweight, welterweight, and now super middleweight.
After a career mostly focused between 135 and 147 pounds, Crawford decided to move up to 154 pounds in August 2024, where he defeated Israil Madrimov, obtaining the WBA super welterweight title. This triumph allowed him to prepare for a year for the expected fight against Canelo.
Canelo, also a champion in four divisions, suffered his fourth defeat in his professional career. The other three were against Floyd Mayweather in 2013 and Dmitry Bivol in 2022, when Canelo moved up to light heavyweight to fight for a world title. The defeat against Crawford ends a streak of six consecutive victories.
