France defeated Ireland with a score of 18-13 on Sunday in a high-caliber match.
France’s third-row player Axelle Berthoumieu has been cited by World Rugby following an alleged incident in which she bit Ireland’s Aoife Wafer during the Women’s World Cup quarter-final match.
Ireland captain Sam Monaghan reported to the match referee what happened after Wafer reported the bite during her team’s defeat.
At the time of the supposed incident, Ireland was heading to the semi-finals, leading the score 13-0 in Exeter. However, France staged a spectacular comeback, securing the 18-13 victory and a place in the semi-final against England next week.
Berthoumieu could face a long suspension if found guilty.
I spoke to the referee. Aoife told me, I didn’t see it myself, but I spoke to the referee and asked him.

World Rugby confirmed on Sunday evening that Berthoumieu was cited for biting, while her teammate Manae Felu was cited for a dangerous tackle.
The cases will be judged on Monday.
