Blackhawks Secure Spencer Knight as Long-Term Starting Goalie

The Blackhawks, in the midst of a rebuild, have bet heavily on Spencer Knight. The team has signed a three-year, $17.5 million contract extension with the goaltender, solidifying him as their main figure in goal. Knight, 24, still has one year remaining on his current contract. The extension guarantees his stay with the Blackhawks through the 2029-30 season. The team acquired Knight, along with a first-round pick, in a trade that involved Seth Jones and a draft pick, coming from the Florida Panthers in March. Knight was selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2019 draft. During his first three seasons in Florida, he served primarily as a backup to Sergei Bobrovsky. In Chicago, Knight will have the opportunity to take on a more important role on a Blackhawks team coming off three consecutive last-place finishes in the Central Division. Jeff Blashill will begin his first season as coach.

After joining the team in March, Spencer quickly established himself as a crucial piece for our future. He is a young and talented goalkeeper who brings athleticism, good positioning, and calmness to his game. We are excited to see Spencer continue to flourish in Chicago for the next four seasons.

Overall, the 6-foot-3-inch, 191-pound player, a Boston College graduate, has a 49-33-9 record with five shutouts.
