Brendan Donovan Returns to the Cardinals Roster

St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan has been activated from the injured list after missing 25 games due to a left groin strain. The news was confirmed before Friday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Alongside Donovan, the team also activated left-handed pitcher John King from the injured list. In related moves, left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet and infielder Jose Fermin were optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

Donovan, 28, made his first All-Star appearance this season. His last game was August 13. Entering Friday’s game, Donovan was batting .279 with an on-base percentage of .348, nine home runs and 45 RBIs in 110 games.

John King, who will turn 31 on Sunday, had been out since August 26 due to a back strain. King has a 2-0 record with a 5.18 ERA in 43 appearances.

In additional news, shortstop Masyn Winn was removed from Friday’s lineup after initially being included. Winn has been dealing with a meniscus tear and last played on Monday.
