PSG Furious Over Dembélé’s Injury with France

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has expressed its displeasure with the French national team coach, Didier Deschamps, for the decision to field Ousmane Dembélé in the match against Ukraine last Friday. The forward suffered an injury that will keep him off the field for six weeks. Dembélé, 28, entered the field at halftime and had to be substituted in the 81st minute due to a right hamstring injury. PSG confirmed on Saturday that the player, considered one of the favorites for the Ballon d’Or, suffered a “serious” injury.

“After leaving the field injured during the match between Ukraine and France on Friday, Ousmane Dembélé has suffered a serious injury to his right hamstring. He is expected to be out for about six weeks,” the club announced.

This injury will prevent him from participating in the start of the Champions League campaign against Atalanta, the second away match against Barcelona and, possibly, the trip to Bayer Leverkusen. He will also miss the classic against Marseille and several Ligue 1 matches. In Paris, the decision to field Dembélé was considered incomprehensible and wrong. A source close to the club called the decision to play Dembélé, who had suffered discomfort in his left hamstring the previous week against Toulouse, “ridiculous.” Deschamps tried to defend his decision after the match.

Dembélé only played 36 minutes before getting injured against Ukraine on Friday. Deschamps stated: “I was sure he was capable of playing a high-level match, otherwise I wouldn’t have put him in. This time, it’s the other thigh [against Toulouse]. He was in shape. It’s a shame for him, but it could have happened to another player. I made the decision to put him in because that’s what I thought and because medically there was no problem.” Désiré Doué, Dembélé’s teammate at PSG, also suffered an injury and had to be substituted at halftime against Ukraine. He suffered a strain in his right calf and will be out for about four weeks, according to PSG. In addition, PSG coach Luis Enrique suffered a fractured collarbone after a fall from his bicycle and underwent surgery on Friday night.
