Miranda Wang Crowned Champion at the FM Championship
In an exciting tournament that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Miranda Wang achieved her first LPGA title at the FM Championship. The Chinese golfer demonstrated composure and skill to overcome the world number one and secure the victory. Wang, who previously led the competition, saw Jeeno Thitikul, the Thai golfer, take the lead. However, Wang responded with determination, executing crucial shots in the last three holes that allowed her to sign a card of 70 strokes, two under par, and obtain a victory by one stroke. This victory makes Wang the seventh LPGA rookie to win this year, extending an impressive streak where there have been no multiple winners in the first 23 tournaments of the season.Thitikul, who had snatched the top spot in the ranking from Nelly Korda, seemed set to ruin Wang’s aspirations. However, Wang’s tenacity and some mistakes by Thitikul opened the way to victory. In the 17th hole, Thitikul had problems with her shot, resulting in a bogey. Wang, for his part, took the opportunity, sinking a birdie that regained the lead. In the final hole, Thitikul settled for a par, while Wang, with a precise strategy, secured the par and sealed her victory with a total of 20 under par, 268 strokes. Rose Zhang, who played in the final group with Wang, celebrated her colleague’s victory. Wang’s victory marks the eleventh first-time winner on the LPGA this year. Wang demonstrated his potential from the start of the tournament, with eight birdies in the first nine holes. His confidence with the putter grew, which allowed him to lead by three strokes before the final round. Sei Young Kim finished in third place, three strokes behind the winner. Andrea Lee also managed a 70 and finished one stroke further back. The LPGA is now preparing for the Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati, after having had 24 winners in 23 tournaments.I hope this is the first of many, and I will keep working hard. This is a dream come true.
