PITTSBURGH – Shohei Ohtani continues to demonstrate his worth in baseball. The Japanese star hit his 100th home run with the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking a significant milestone in his career.
A Historic Home Run
The home run, which left at a speed of 120 mph, is the strongest of his professional career. This hit also becomes the most powerful recorded by a Dodgers player since this data began to be measured in 2015.
The hit was connected in the third inning against rookie pitcher Bubba Chandler of the Pirates, sending the ball to the right field of PNC Park.
This impressive hit joins the most powerful ever measured by Statcast, coming close to the absolute record, set by Oneil Cruz with 122.9 mph in 2022.
Records and Achievements
Ohtani has become the fourth player in MLB history to reach 100 home runs in his first two seasons with a team, joining legendary figures like Babe Ruth, Alex Rodríguez, and Roger Maris.
He achieved this feat in just 294 games, being the third fastest in modern history to reach that mark, surpassed only by Mark McGwire (230) and Ruth (250).
The two-time American League MVP now has 46 home runs in the current campaign, placing him in third place in Major League Baseball.
Notably, 42 of his home runs have been as a leadoff hitter, surpassing the previous record of Ronald Acuña Jr. (41 in 2023).
Ohtani not only leads the Dodgers in power, but also concentrates the 15 hardest hits of the franchise in the Statcast era, solidifying his status as a unique figure in today’s baseball.
