Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has expressed his desire for the club not to allow the departure of Marc Guéhi, captain of the Eagles, after scoring an impressive goal that contributed to the victory over Aston Villa.
On the other hand, Aston Villa coach Unai Emery could not secure the permanence of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez in the team, at a crucial moment before the closing of the transfer market.
Guéhi has been heavily linked with Liverpool, but he put aside the speculation to deliver an outstanding performance, crowned with a great goal in his team’s 3-0 victory at Villa Park.
Conversely, Martínez did not participate in the match due to rumors of interest from Manchester United. His replacement, Marco Bizot, had a night to forget, including a penalty that Jean-Philippe Mateta converted into a goal and a header from Ismaïla Sarr.
Glasner added:We need to keep Marc if we want to have a successful season.
Oliver Glasner
- We have an agreement that if we sell Marc, we will have the appropriate replacement.
- We wanted to have this replacement at the beginning of the preseason.
- There is no replacement in the team, it is clear that a part of the agreement has not been fulfilled. That means we cannot sell Marc.
- It is not a wish or a gift for Oliver Glasner, it is necessary to play a successful season.
- It is a tempting situation, but if we want to progress, we have to keep him. If we sell, we accept a step back.
Emery confirmed that Villa were working on a deal to sign former United defender Victor Lindelöf.He wasn’t available. We need the players to be focused and at 100 percent. He wasn’t.
