Antony close to leaving Manchester United: Real Betis lurking

Manchester United have accepted an offer from Real Betis for winger Antony, according to sources close to the negotiation. The conversations between both clubs point to a definitive transfer that could reach 25 million pounds sterling (34 million dollars). United would also reserve 50% of any future sale of the player. Antony has been given permission to negotiate personal terms with Betis, where he was on loan last season, but an agreement has not yet been reached.

There’s still work to be done.

If the operation is finalized, Antony’s three-year stint at Old Trafford would come to an end. The player arrived from Ajax in 2022, under the direction of then-manager Erik ten Hag, but failed to establish himself. His signing, for 86 million pounds sterling (116 million dollars), makes him the second most expensive signing in United’s history, only behind Paul Pogba. Antony stood out during his loan spell at Betis last season, scoring nine goals in 26 matches after his arrival in January. Upon his return to United this summer, he was excluded from the squad for the pre-season tour of the United States and separated from the first team along with other players considered expendable.
