A weekend of boxing, although with little influence on the divisional rankings, left us with an unmissable fight.

Abass Baraou vs. Yoenis Tellez: An Epic Battle

In the co-main event of the first edition of MVP Fight Night, super middleweights Abass Baraou (17-1, 9 KOs) and Yoenis Tellez (10-1, 7 KOs) starred in a fight that will remain in the memory of the fans. Baraou and Tellez engaged in an even and exciting duel, where both had their moments of glory. Tellez, known for his victory over Julian Williams in March, countered Baraou’s constant pressure with precise counter-punching. However, Baraou did not give up and his constant offense finally wore down Tellez in the twelfth round, sending the Cuban to the canvas and sealing an exceptional performance.

The Main Event: A Controversial Draw

The main event, on the other hand, was a less attractive fight that ended with a controversial result. Yankiel Rivera (7-0-1, 3 KOs) and Angelino Córdova (19-0-2, 12 KOs) finished in a majority draw, despite Córdova suffering a knockdown and a penalty. Rivera seemed to have the advantage after knocking down Córdoba in the fourth round and after the latter was penalized for repeated blows to the back of the head in the sixth. However, none of the three judges scored in favor of Rivera, with two of them marking a 113-113 and a third, surprisingly, giving the victory to Córdoba with a 115-111. Here are the rankings for the different weight categories.

Boxing Rankings by Division

Boxing rankings highlight the best athletes in each weight category. These lists are constantly updated, based on the most recent results and performances. Boxers who have announced their move to a different category will be included in the new division, if applicable, once they compete in it. Likewise, boxers holding titles in two divisions may be ranked in both. Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they compete again. Those who test positive for performance-enhancing substances will also be removed. The boxer may re-enter the rankings after their next fight.
