Nathan Eovaldi Out for the Rest of the Season

Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, a favorite for the American League Cy Young Award, will likely miss the rest of the season due to a rotator cuff strain, the team announced Tuesday. In his last outing, Eovaldi reached 130 innings, becoming the MLB leader in earned run average (ERA) with 1.73. His performance in the current season is 11-3, with 129 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.85. However, to win the ERA title, a pitcher must complete the season with 162 innings. In his last start on Friday, he pitched seven innings, striking out nine batters, but did not get a decision in the 4-3 victory against the Cleveland Guardians. Before Tuesday, Eovaldi was tied for third among the favorites for the American League Cy Young.
