Ron Washington Reveals Details of His Surgery After Months of Absence

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington has publicly shared details about his recent quadruple bypass surgery. This is the first time Washington has addressed the health issues that have kept him off the field since the end of June. Washington made this announcement during his first visit to the team since the operation, which took place eight weeks ago in California. The manager, who is recovering at his home in New Orleans, expressed his enthusiasm for this reunion. Although he will not return to manage this season, he hopes to have the opportunity to do so next year and anticipates a full recovery by December.

The doctors told me that by the time I reached eight weeks, I could start doing some light work. But my light work was coming to Texas and being with the team.

Washington, 73 years old and the oldest manager in Major League Baseball, feels good and has emphasized that his visit to Texas is to be with his players and enjoy with them. The last time Washington managed a game was on June 19 against the New York Yankees. The next day, the Angels announced his indefinite absence due to health issues, after the manager experienced difficulty breathing and fatigue at the end of the series in New York. After being cleared by the Yankees’ doctors to return home with his team, Washington underwent a series of tests in California. There, an angiogram revealed blockages in his valves that could not be fixed with stents. Washington was hospitalized on June 23, underwent surgery on June 30, and was discharged on July 7. On June 27, the Angels announced that he would be on medical leave for the rest of the season.
