Sean Strickland Receives Suspension for Altercation at MMA Event

UFC middleweight ex-champion Sean Strickland has been suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) due to his involvement in a physical altercation with another fighter at an MMA event in June.

The NSAC imposed a suspension and a $5,000 fine on 34-year-old Strickland during its monthly meeting on Thursday. The suspension applies retroactively to the date of the incident, which took place on June 29 at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas. It will expire on December 29. However, Strickland could reduce the suspension to 4.5 months if he completes an anger management course.

Strickland, a Las Vegas resident, entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the fight, Hernandez taunted Hunsinger’s corner, which provoked a reaction from Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing a couple of punches at Hernandez. The NSAC also fined Curtis $2,500 for his involvement in the incident.

Strickland (29-7) hasn’t competed since failing to win the UFC title against then-champion Dricus Du Plessis in February. He had no scheduled fights at the time of the incident in June.
