ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers have placed second baseman Marcus Semien on the 10-day injured list. This is the second time in his 13-year career that Semien has gone on the list, due to a left foot contusion. To cover his spot, right fielder Adolis García has been activated. Semien suffered the injury while hitting a ball in the first inning of Thursday’s 6-4 loss in Kansas City. The Rangers have not yet determined the severity of the injury. The three-time All-Star is wearing a walking boot. García, for his part, was activated the first day he was eligible after recovering from a left ankle sprain. He participated in batting practice on Friday before Texas’ 4-3 victory over Cleveland. García was included in the lineup on Saturday. The only other time Semien was placed on the injured list was at the beginning of the 2017 season with the Athletics, missing almost three months due to a right wrist injury. Before this foot injury, Semien had only missed six of the Rangers’ 615 games since joining the team before the 2022 season with a seven-year, $175 million contract.
Semien was injured in the same game in which Evan Carter fractured his right wrist after being hit by a pitch. Carter was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, but could miss the rest of the season. Semien, 34, is batting .230 with 15 home runs, 62 RBIs, and leads the team with 62 runs scored. Since joining the club, he leads Texas in games (609), hits (610), triples (12), walks (239), runs (386), and total bases (1027).“He’s going to be in a bad mood, I’m telling you,” said manager Bruce Bochy. “I think he sees himself as ‘I need to be out there every day.’ For him to say it’s probably going to be a while, you know something’s going on there.”
