Johnny Wilson Suffers Season-Ending Injury
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Johnny Wilson will undergo knee and ankle surgery, ending his season, according to a league source.
The injury occurred during Tuesday’s practice. Wilson appeared to be hit during a Saquon Barkley running play and fell awkwardly to the ground. He was assisted off the field towards the medical tent, heavily favoring his left leg, before being taken in a cart inside.
Wilson, a sixth-round selection from Florida State in 2024, appeared to be on track to make the 53-player roster as the fourth wide receiver. He has a unique size for the position (6 feet 6 inches, 228 pounds). The Eagles value his blocking, as well as his ability to jump for contested balls, as he did in the first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, when he finished with three receptions for 73 yards.
Philadelphia has several receivers competing for positions behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson, including Ainais Smith and undrafted rookie Darius Cooper, who has impressed this summer.
The Eagles also recently traded for John Metchie III, sending tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round draft pick from the 2026 draft to the Houston Texans for Metchie and a sixth-round pick from the 2026 draft.
Wilson started four games last season and finished with five receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown.
