The former world heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois, has decided to part ways with his coach, Don Charles, as confirmed by the British boxer himself. Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) suffered a knockout defeat in the fifth round against Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium last month. This victory crowned Usyk as undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time, adding Dubois’ IBF belt to his collection and marking the third defeat in the British fighter’s career. Now, Dubois has made the decision to leave Charles, with whom he began working before his first fight against Usyk in August 2023.
Dubois stated in an Instagram post:The boxer added: “That being said, I feel it’s time for a change, a new approach for the next phase of my career, as I strive to become a two-time heavyweight world champion. God bless me. I will be making an announcement about the structure of my new team very soon.” Rumors suggest that Dubois could work with Joshua’s former trainer, Tony Sims, who also trains, among others, Conor Benn in Essex. Charles was key in Dubois’ rise in the heavyweight rankings and in the revitalization of his career. After a struggle in their first fight together against Usyk in Poland, Dubois achieved significant victories over Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller, followed by a resounding knockout victory over Anthony Joshua in September. How Oleksandr Usyk knew he would dismantle Daniel Dubois This move is the último of a series of changes for Dubois, as co-trainer Kieran Farrell also left the team earlier this month. The Briton has also started working with boxing manager Sam Jones. Previously, Dubois worked with Shane McGuigan, who trains his sister and lightweight world champion, Caroline Dubois, before joining Charles.I want to take this moment to thank Don Charles and his team for all the time, effort, and hard work they have dedicated to me over the last 18 months. I am truly grateful for everything.
