Frankie Edgar Returns to the Ring: Will Face Bare-Knuckle Boxing
UFC Hall of Famer Frankie Edgar is set to come out of retirement and compete in a bare-knuckle boxing match. It is expected that 43-year-old Edgar will face his UFC veteran colleague Jimmie Rivera at a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships event on October 4 in his home state of New Jersey. Conor McGregor, partial co-owner of BKFC, announced the news on his social media, following an initial report. Ali Abdelaziz, Edgar’s manager, also confirmed the news.Edgar retired from MMA in 2022 with a record of 24-11-1. The former lightweight champion is one of the most beloved figures in UFC history, known for his heart and willingness to take on bigger opponents in the prime of his career. He won the UFC 155-pound title despite being a heavy underdog against BJ Penn in 2010. Edgar fought for the 145-pound title twice in 2013 and 2019, falling short against José Aldo and Max Holloway. Originally from Toms River, New Jersey, Edgar was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2024. The BKFC 82 event, which will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, will be headlined by two other UFC veterans, Mike Perry and Jeremy Stephens.I’m very excited to compete again, especially here in Jersey.
