Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Exits Game with Hamstring Discomfort

Toronto Blue Jays’ first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Monday night’s game against Pittsburgh in the fifth inning due to a hamstring issue. The Blue Jays fell 5-2. Guerrero made two spectacular defensive plays at first base, demonstrating great agility. The last one was an excellent catch after a long throw from shortstop Bo Bichette to retire Jared Triolo and end the third inning. Guerrero returned to the field in the fourth inning, but was replaced by Ty France when his turn to bat came in the top of the fifth.

“After that stretch, obviously,” Schneider said. “This time of year, everyone is a little bit tight, and that just irritated his hamstring. It’s just tightness.”

John Schneider, Manager of the Blue Jays
Blue Jays manager John Schneider reported that Guerrero was “fine,” but an MRI was scheduled to get a clearer picture of the situation. Schneider explained that Guerrero wanted to play the fourth inning to assess the extent of the injury. However, as a precaution, he was substituted in the fifth.

“I trust him, and he knows himself very well,” Schneider added. “We can’t afford to lose him for an extended period, so it was also partially preventative. Hopefully, he’ll be ready to play in a day or two. Obviously, he’s very important to our lineup.”

In the current season, Guerrero is batting .298 with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs, being a key player on the Toronto team, which currently holds first place.
