The representation of Lawrence, Massachusetts, demonstrated its supremacy in basketball during the Juan Pablo Duarte NY 2025 Sports Games, held in New York. The city’s teams swept the competition, obtaining four gold medals in the 12, 14, 16, and 18-year-old categories, maintaining an undefeated record.
The quintets from Lawrence, Massachusetts, represented by the “Sueños Basquetball” Sports Education organization, led by José Diloné and Jackeline Marte Diloné, and with the direction of coaches Anthony Ventura, Ulianow Luperón and Joel Thimbalanga, exhibited exceptional quality in each match, finishing with an impressive 6-0.
The Washington Heights (Manhattan), ACDP (Bronx), All-Star (Queens), and New Jersey teams were outmatched by the skill of the Boston teams.
These games, supported by the Dominican Government through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MIDEREC), have highlighted the emerging talent and potential of the participating teams, as demonstrated by the performance of the Lawrence, Massachusetts basketball teams.The athletics discipline inaugurated its competitions with the participation of more than 100 athletes, offering exciting races and demonstrating the talent of the competitors.
In the 5-kilometer race, men’s master category, Luis Almonte, from The Bronx, took the gold medal with a time of 0:20:19. Dennis Bautista, from New Jersey, won the silver with 0:21:23, and Víctor Rosa, from Manhattan, took the bronze with a time of 0:22:22.
In the women’s master category, Ariela Ortiz, from The Bronx, won gold with a time of 0:22:50. Cristina Rodríguez, from New Jersey, obtained silver with 0:24:55, and Beneranda Ávila, also from The Bronx, took the bronze with 0:25:50.
In the women’s 400-meter flat race, Ambar Fulgencio stood out by winning the gold medal.
In addition, races were held for children and youth categories in both branches, male and female.

The court of Gregorio Luperón High School in Washington Heights, Manhattan, was the setting for the start of the women’s volleyball competition.
The Manhattan team achieved two victories on Sunday, surpassing Brooklyn 3-0 and Queens 2-1.
The activity is expected to continue next Thursday with matches between The Bronx and Union City, New Jersey, at Riverbank State Park in Manhattan. The men’s competition will also begin that same day.Domino, Chess and Checkers: Success in Mind Sports
Times Square, in Manhattan, was the epicenter of exciting dominoes, chess, and checkers competitions, attracting hundreds of spectators.
More than 50 domino players competed at 20 tables, demonstrating concentration, memory, and strategy skills. In chess, dozens of participants gathered to play at 12 tables.
A gold medal-winning competitor explained that the goal in chess is to “checkmate” the opponent’s king.
