Bryson DeChambeau and PGA Tour Veterans Secure Their Spots on the Ryder Cup Team

LIV Golf League golfer Bryson DeChambeau, along with PGA Tour veterans Russell Henley and Harris English, have secured their place on the U.S. Ryder Cup team that will face Europe at Bethpage Black, New York, next month.

These players will join prominent figures such as Scottie Scheffler, U.S. Open winner J.J. Spaun, and two-time major champion Xander Schauffele, who also qualified by finishing in the top six in Ryder Cup points after the final round of the BMW Championship.

The U.S. team captain, Keegan Bradley, will have the task of selecting six additional players on August 27, three days after the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Bryson DeChambeau, 31, who earned his second U.S. Open title at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina in 2024, will make his third Ryder Cup appearance, looking to improve his 2-3-1 record in the 2018 and 2021 editions.

Harris English, 36, will also be part of the American team for the second time in his career. In his Ryder Cup debut, English had a 1-2-0 record in the United States’ 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin.

English, who is currently ranked number 8 in the World Golf Ranking, achieved his first PGA Tour victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. In addition, he tied for second place at the PGA Championship in May and took second place at The Open in Northern Ireland in July.

Russell Henley, also 36, will debut in the Ryder Cup alongside Spaun at Bethpage Black. Henley won his fifth PGA Tour tournament at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and then tied for tenth place at the U.S. Open and The Open.

Considered one of the best hitters on the tour and currently in fifth place in the OWGR, Henley demonstrated his prowess at the BMW Championship, excelling in various game metrics.

Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, and Bradley also stood out in the top 10 this week.

Bradley himself, winner of the 2024 BMW Championship, finished in 17th place with a total of 1 under par at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, on Sunday, finishing 16 strokes behind Scheffler, who earned his fifth victory of the season.

Bradley has expressed his uncertainty about whether he will select himself as the captain’s choice.

The last playing captain in the Ryder Cup was Arnold Palmer, who led the American team to a 23-9 victory over Europe at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta in 1963.

Maverick McNealy, Sam Burns, Cameron Young, Griffin and Brian Harman, all in contention for a captain’s pick, also achieved prominent positions in the BMW Championship.

The Ryder Cup will take place from September 26 to 28.
