Minnesota Lynx Bolster Roster with DiJonai Carrington Acquisition
In a strategic move that shakes up the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx have finalized a key trade, acquiring the outstanding guard DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. This signing represents a significant reinforcement for the team, currently positioned as one of the leaders of the season.
In return, the Wings will receive forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson, and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft.
Carrington, recognized as the Most Improved Player last year, has proven to be a fundamental piece in the game. Before joining the Wings in February, coming from a quadruple trade that took her from the Connecticut Sun, Carrington averaged 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, a career high.
His performance in 2024 with the Sun was recognized with a selection in the first defensive team.
Diamond Miller, who was the second overall pick in the draft two years ago, averaged 7.1 points per game during her time in Minnesota. For her part, Samuelson, who joined the Lynx in April, averaged 3.3 points per game before undergoing surgery on her left foot that has kept her off the court since June 29.
To facilitate the transfer, the Wings cut Teaira McCowan, who had a protected veteran contract and averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The Lynx, with a 24-5 record this season, are looking to consolidate their position in the league. Meanwhile, the Wings, who have the first overall draft pick, Paige Bueckers, have had a less favorable performance, losing eight of their last ten games and registering an 8-21 record.
