The Miami Dolphins and defensive tackle Zach Sieler have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension, according to sources. This agreement makes Sieler the highest-paid defensive player on the team. The extension, which could reach $67.75 million, includes $44 million guaranteed. The average annual value of $22.5 million represents more than double his current salary. Sieler, who previously signed a three-year extension for $30 million in the summer of 2023, has had consecutive seasons of 10 sacks for the Dolphins. Despite this, Sieler was the No. 29 defensive tackle in the NFL in terms of average annual value, just ahead of Cleveland Browns rookie Mason Graham. Although Sieler missed the team’s voluntary OTA practices, he actively participated in the mandatory minicamp and the first 10 days of training camp. As team captain, Sieler stated that, although a new contract was important to him, being on the field with his teammates was also important.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel praised Sieler for continuing to work despite contract negotiations. McDaniel highlighted that Sieler’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, especially in the team’s attempt to re-establish a culture of accountability. They’re all human. They can handle things however they want. That’s how I choose to handle it, but I hope the message I’m sending is that, at the end of the day, we’re here to play football. Now, obviously, that’s very important to me: the respect and the money that my family receives and earns from this game. We give it our all on the line every day, and I’m going to keep doing that every day.
Zach Sieler
Sieler, who began his career as a walk-on at Ferris State, was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. He was released the following year, and the Dolphins claimed him the next day. After recording nine sacks in his first three seasons with Miami, Sieler led the Dolphins in sacks with 10 in each of the last two campaigns. Since the start of the 2023 season, only Nnamdi Madubuike of Baltimore has had more quarterback hits than Sieler’s 41.I think you are defined by your actions, especially in life. I am very aware that all players have a choice in what they do day in and day out, especially with Zach, and his actions speak volumes, and I think his teammates recognize a lot how Zach Sieler plays football and contributes to the team every day. And I think Zach has a team vision that I share and that, as a leader, he understands that he is trying to show the guys how he wants his teammates to play football, and I get excited every time I see Zach Sieler.
