Brawl at Fenway Park: Neris and Hudson have tense moment

Houston Astros reliever Héctor Neris was involved in a tense incident during Saturday’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The altercation occurred after Neris committed a balk that advanced a runner to third base. In the seventh inning, Neris allowed a double to Trevor Story. Subsequently, the right-handed pitcher committed a balk, allowing Story to advance to third. The episode culminated with an out on a ground ball to the shortstop. As Neris was leaving the mound, he exchanged words with the Red Sox’s third base coach, Kyle Hudson, which triggered a confrontation between both teams, including the bullpens. Fortunately, order was quickly restored.

“Maybe. Maybe yes, maybe no”

When asked if he felt the Red Sox were stealing signs, Neris responded cautiously. “Maybe. Maybe yes, maybe no,” he declared. “But I still wanted to focus. In that situation, I want to do what I feel in the moment. That’s why I moved him to third.” Neris refused to detail what he told Hudson that provoked the confrontation.

“Nothing. It’s part of the game. Something funny. People come to the clubhouse maybe to hear what happened, but nothing serious”

The Astros manager, Joe Espada, had no information about what caused the confrontation before Neris spoke to the media. “Actually, I’m going to ask Neris,” Espada said. “Honestly, I don’t know what words were exchanged.”
