Conor McGregor loses appeal in sexual assault case
Conor McGregor has lost his appeal against the sexual assault verdict against him, issued last year. The decision of the Irish court confirms the fighter’s guilt in the case.
McGregor, 37, was found liable for sexual assault in November. The case dates back to a 2018 incident, when the plaintiff accused the UFC star of attacking her in a hotel room. The jury ruled in favor of the woman and ordered McGregor to pay 248,000 euros.
McGregor’s legal team presented several arguments, including new testimony from a neighbor of the victim. However, they withdrew that argument earlier this month.
According to reports, the woman stated in court that she met McGregor at a Christmas party in Dublin in 2018. She accused him of forcing her to lie on a bed, strangling her, and making her fear for her life. McGregor, who has four children with his longtime partner, admitted to having had sexual relations with the woman, but denied that it was violent or forced. He did not face criminal charges for the incident.
McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in mixed martial arts since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. Earlier this month, he claimed to have undergone drug testing as part of the UFC’s mandatory testing program, in a step towards his return to competition. He has expressed interest in participating in a UFC event at the White House in 2026.
