Joaquin Niemann Dominates the LIV Golf United Kingdom

Golfer Joaquin Niemann has consolidated an impressive six-stroke lead at the LIV Golf United Kingdom, heading into Sunday’s final round. The captain of the Torque GC team demonstrated his skill by reaching a total of 14 under par, after an outstanding round of 65 strokes (8 under par) at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England. Niemann shone with nine birdies, although he regretted a single bogey on the 15th hole. Bubba Watson is in second place with 8 under par, after a second round of 68 strokes. Paul Casey, Caleb Surratt, and Adrian Meronk share third place with 7 under par. Niemann, already with four victories on the LIV Golf circuit this season (Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City and Virginia), seeks to add a new title to his record.

I had a great time. I made a lot of putts. I laughed sometimes because I’m not used to seeing so many go in, and it’s great to see it.

The Chilean golfer had a notable performance with five birdies in the first nine holes, including three in a row on holes 1-3.

I think it’s a great course for my eyes. I feel like there are a lot of blind shots. There are a lot of shots from left to right, from left to right, from right to left. You have to move. You have to use different types of shots off the tee, too. I feel very confident on this course. Hopefully I can improve a position from last year, and I’ll be very happy.

Niemann’s Torque GC team also leads in the team championship at 24 under par, surpassing Legion XIII by three strokes, who are seeking their first team title since 2023.

We know we can do it. We’ve been close on a few occasions. I think it’s going to be an exciting day for all of us tomorrow and I hope to see good scores from the four.

Watson acknowledges that he will need an exceptional round and perhaps adverse weather conditions to displace Niemann from the top spot.

He’s playing so well that you don’t expect him to do anything, like back off. Wind direction… I haven’t looked at the weather. That can change a golf course or how we play, the pin setups. But we’re going to give it our all and hopefully it’s enough, have a round like he’s having (on Saturday). Play even par or 1 under par, whatever, but we’re going to go out and do the same and hopefully it’s enough or have a very high finish.

Bubba Watson
A group of five golfers share sixth place at 6-under par, including Niemann’s teammate at Torque GC, Carlos Ortiz.
