Mason Mount Confident in Competing for a Place at Manchester United

Manchester United player Mason Mount is optimistic about his chances of securing a place in the starting eleven of the team led by Ruben Amorim. Mount, after a season marked by injuries, seeks to help Manchester United overcome the disappointment of the previous season. After recovering from injuries, Mount was included in the starting eleven for the Europa League final against Tottenham. Since then, the club has invested in players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who also aspire to occupy offensive positions in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Amorim has also used Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo in similar positions, which adds competition in the team.

“There is competition. When you’re at a club like Manchester United, there has to be competition to perform and as a group we want to win and we’re all in it together,” said Mount.

Mount insists that the competition does not intimidate him and is confident in earning a place on the team. “I know what I can do. But we are a team and we all work together on that,” he added. The player acknowledges that the arrival of the new signings will raise the level of the team and that everyone must be up to the task to perform at their best.

Mount was only able to start in five matches between August and April last season, a period that included a three-month absence due to a hamstring injury. He returned in the final weeks of the season and played a central role in Amorim’s team, starting in five of the last six matches. This included the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final in Bilbao, a result that, according to Mount, continued to affect him while he was on vacation in Spain during the summer. “It takes time to get over it, for sure,” he commented. Mount admitted that the defeat in the Europa League final still affected him. “As a player, you think about small details of the game. I started the match, so I was wondering, what could I have done in that situation? Could I have made a better pass?” Both Mount and Amorim have emphasized the importance of starting anew. Cunha and Mbeumo have revitalized the squad, while players like Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia were left out of the plans. Manchester United seeks to recover from its worst season in 50 years. Mount, after finishing in 15th place last season, aims to return to European positions as soon as possible.

“Obviously, we want to be back in Europe. I think that’s a very important thing for the club. I think that’s the focus,” Mount said.

Mount emphasizes the importance of focusing on details and improving as a group to achieve the best possible performance. “Amorim is very demanding with details, small improvements on and off the field, and has been very important in that.” The team is focusing on this new season with a renewed attitude and determination to achieve its goals.
