Toros del Este bolster their pitching with the arrival of Evan Grills

With the goal of consolidating their pitching staff for the 2026-2027 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), the Toros del Este announced the addition of Canadian left-hander Evan Grills to their starting rotation.

Grills, 34, has already joined the team’s practices in La Romana. The pitcher arrives after an outstanding performance during the summer, where he split his time between the Frontier League and the Mexican Baseball League, recording a combined 10-5 record. His control has been one of his strongest points, accumulating 98 strikeouts against only 25 walks issued in a total of 107 innings of work.

Grills is a left-handed starter with a good repertoire and command; that combination always adds value to a rotation in this league.

Details about the roster move

The experienced pitcher, who has previous experience in professional leagues in Puerto Rico and China, will temporarily fill the spot of Aaron Sánchez. The fellow starter is currently out of action due to a viral illness he developed upon his arrival in the country. The team’s management remains hopeful that Sánchez will be able to rejoin the club once he overcomes his health issue.

It is expected that in the coming days, manager Víctor Estévez and his coaching staff will define the official rotation for the start of the championship.

Debut at the Francisco A. Micheli

The La Romana team prepares for its official debut in the tournament. The event will take place on Friday, October 16th, at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, where the Toros will host the Estrellas Orientales starting at 7:30 PM on the highly anticipated Opening Day.
